Lavrio Port Greece - Information about the town of Lavrio

Where is the port of Lavrio

Location of Lavrion

The port of Lavrion is located at the southeast tip of Attika, about 35 miles from the center of Athens. (use the interactive map above to zoom in/out)

Lavrio since antiquity has been a center of mining for the area of Attica (Athens). The port is a large commercial one but also has a much more picturesque area for leisure boats and fishing boats.
As the port is much better located, facing the Cyclades, as compared to the port of Athens (Piraeus), it has over the last years increased the number of leisure travellers starting their journey to the islands from here. Another point which makes the port of Lavrion interesting for leisure travellers is the fact that it is closer to the airport than Piraeus port is.
The town has quite a few restaurants that are frequented by locals which you could check out. Over the weekends the restaurants may be a bit crowded as many Athenians do take day trips to Sounion and Lavrion as a combination.
Most common though is that travellers are just passing though and boarding their ships to the Aegean islands. If you have time though it is worth to walk around and explore this town and the port.
